Webinar: Mandatory COVID-19 vaccines and how to handle accommodations

Now that the government is mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for some employers, we are seeing an uptick in requests from employees for religious and medical exemptions. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) allows employers to require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. However, employers must be vigilant to recognize they must provide reasonable accommodations for employees who may have a medical disability or a sincerely held religious belief that prevents them from receiving the vaccine.

The accommodation process is extremely complicated, and the legal guidelines are very broad. This can put employers at risk as many are generally unfamiliar with how to administer the process correctly. In this session, we will discuss the ADA and religious accommodation process, including best practices and recognizing red flags.

After completing this course, the learner will:

  • Know what qualifies an employee to receive a religious or medical exemption.
  • Understand the EEOC guidelines for reasonable accommodations under the ADA and religious exemption arena.
  • Understand the foundational elements of the ADA and religious accommodation process.
  • Be able to recognize red flags or fraudulent requests.
  • Have reviewed real-world examples of vaccine exemption situations and the recommended response to those.
